The new accessible ramp has been installed at the Heritage Centre, allowing equal access to the ground floor where new exhibitions will be displayed when renovations are completed later this year.
Building works commenced at the Museum in October 2020. Things are now really starting to take shape at the Cobar Museum Project. With the inside building works now in full swing the project is on scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2021.
The works have included restoring the grand old building back to its former glory and allowing it to be preserved for many years to come. The old exhibitions were carefully removed during the decommissioning stage and have been stored away until the reopening.
An exhibition designer has been engaged to help Council deliver the new exhibitions.
This project was made possible by funding received from the Far North West Joint Organisation Tourism Infrastructure Funding stream and the NSW Government Regional Cultural Fund and Heritage Near Me program in conjunction with Cobar Shire Council.
We've been lucky enough to get a birds eye view of the works thanks to contractor David Payne Construction and an artist's impression of the renovated Heritage Centre from architects Dunn & Hillam.
