Mildura Rural City Council has welcomed funding from the federal and state governments to support Mildura Airport as it recovers in the wake of the global pandemic.
Mayor Jason Modica said $850,000 from the State Government and $885,020 from the Australian Government announced this week would keep the airport afloat following a devastating 2020.
“Ensuring the airport remains operational is crucial for our region’s economy and our community’s wellbeing,” Cr Modica said.
“We are incredibly grateful that the Australian and State Governments have acknowledged through this funding how vital the airport is to our region.
At the March Council Meeting Mildura Rural City Council also provided $150,000 in rates relief to Mildura Airport to further assist in the wake of the pandemic.
“This is a great example of all three levels of government contributing to an important economic and social asset.”
Cr Modica said a combined contribution of more than $1.8 million would help offset some of the high operating costs of needing to maintain operational readiness despite the significant decline in income streams.
“The Airport is a significant asset that helps underpin community connectivity and transport links for business, tourism medical care and emergency services.”
