With the Easter long weekend almost upon us, it is important that we focus on ways to keep ourselves, our families and those around us safe.
While some will be attending church services to reflect and rejoice on the Easter story, for others it is an opportunity to get together with family and friends and indulge in a few hot cross buns and chocolate eggs.
Throughout the Easter break, I urge all residents to enjoy their time off while keeping a number of factors firmly in mind.
Stay connected to one another, whether it be by phone or online and check in on those who may be doing it tough over what is normally a festive period.
Stay informed by regularly monitoring Australian Government updates on COVID-19 and any newly implemented measures, especially if you plan to travel outside of Victoria.
But most of all stay safe. It is essential that we all continue to adhere to social distancing rules by keeping 1.5 metres apart wherever possible when in public and practicing good hand hygiene; remembering that these measures have been put in place to keep you, your family, friends and the wider community safe from the ongoing threat of coronavirus.
With an increased number of motorists expected on our roads during this period, I appeal to drivers to take care and drive with caution.
If you’re planning on travelling long distances, please be sure to make use of the SES Driver Reviver sites. They’re a good opportunity to take a break and avoid fatigue, and ensure you arrive at your destination and return home to Maroondah safely.
A reminder that Realm, including our customer service centre, will be open on Easter Saturday (3 April) and on the Easter Monday (5 April), from 10am to 5pm. This includes the Realm library on Level one. Our Croydon customer service centre will be closed across the weekend.
Also, don’t forget that Daylight Savings will end this Sunday, April 4. This means we need to turn our clocks back one hour at 2am Sunday morning, or before you go to bed Saturday night. And at least we’ll have the benefit of an extra hour of sleep.
On behalf of my fellow Councillors, and everyone here at Maroondah City Council, we hope you have a wonderful Easter break.
