Bega Valley Shire Council encourages feedback on proposed changes to its awards, grants and scholarships programs.
Council’s Community Connections Manager, Anne Cleverley said the proposed changes are intended to streamline processes and make it easier for the community.
“Our community grants and scholarships support projects that build the social, cultural, environmental and economic life of our shire, and build opportunities for young people,” Ms Cleverley said.
“Over the last year we’ve received some great feedback from the community on how we could improve these programs.
“The proposed changes are designed to make it easier for people to apply for grants and scholarships, ensure our grant programs are responsive to community needs and streamline the way the grants are assessed.
“Proposed changes to the awards process will see one major civic ceremony held annually to confer our annual awards, and combine the Bega Valley Medallion Awards and Local Awards which both recognise outstanding service to the community in a volunteer capacity.
“We’re also proposing to discontinue the Sportsperson of the Year Award as a separate category, as we haven’t received many nominations for it in past years and outstanding achievement in sport can be recognised in the other award categories.”
Comments on the proposed changes are welcome via the Have Your Say webpage until COB Friday 4 June.
