Level 4 water restrictions for the Brogo-Bermagui water supply system will be lifted at 5pm today.

Level 4 restrictions were introduced on Thursday 25 March to reduce water demand while water was trucked from Merimbula and Bega due to poor water quality in the Brogo River catchment.

Council’s acting Manager of Water and Sewerage Services, Paul Ronan said water quality had been affected by heavy rainfall and runoff across the catchment, but conditions have now improved and pumping from the river is able to recommence.

Water is no longer being carted from Bega and the system reservoirs are being refilled.

Water restrictions are no longer required.

Mr Ronan thanked the community for cooperating with the water restrictions.

“The community’s understanding of conditions and responsible use of water has been greatly appreciated, and it has helped to limit the amount of water carting required,” Mr Ronan said.

Mr Ronan also acknowledged the efforts of Council staff in coordinating trucking and operating the temporary settling plant to ensure clean water remained available to everyone.
