Guyra’s main street upgrade reaches next stage

Work on the upgrade of Guyra’s Bradley Street is progressing, with the Stage 2 roadworks set to get underway in April.

The road rehabilitation works will involve the excavation and reconstruction of the existing road pavement in Bradley Street between Mackenzie Street and Nincoola Street.

Armidale Regional Council General Manager James Roncon said it’s an exciting step in the Guyra main street upgrade.

“Stage 2 will see huge improvements to the quality of the road which will increase the overall quality of the street,” said Mr Roncon.

“This project has taken longer than anticipated due to the discovery of underground fuel tanks, however Council is powering on and making sure this project is delivered.”

Pedestrian and traffic access along Bradley Street will be temporarily affected to facilitate the works, with a full road closure between Nincoola Street and Mackenzie Street scheduled from Monday 19 April. The full road closure is expected to be in place for three weeks, dependant on weather and site conditions.

“A 24 hour detour will be in place during the full road closure and will divert road users to the nearby Boorolong Street,” said Mr Roncon.

“Pedestrians will still be able to use the footpaths on either side of Bradley Street to minimise impact on businesses in the street.”

Pedestrian fencing will prevent pedestrians crossing through the worksite for the duration of the work.

The $450,000 project has been jointly funded by the NSW Roads to Recovery Program and merger funding.
