With a new world-class skate park set to be built in Broken Hill, now is the perfect time to learn how to skateboard.
Council, Headspace, and the YMCA are providing a free learn to skate and mentoring session at Duff Street Park between 4pm-6pm on April 19 to kick off Youth Week.
The session is for kids 12 years and up, and will be hosted by Sydney-based skateboarding workshop specialists The Totem Collective.
Mayor Darriea Turley AM encouraged all aspiring skaters to get involved.
"Whether kids have an interest in skateboarding or just want to try something new, this is a great opportunity," said Mayor Turley.
"Totem are a very experienced provider of skateboarding workshops and I'd encourage everyone to take advantage of their visit to the city."
Bookings are required for this session and can be made by clicking 'register' at totemskateboarding.com or by clicking this link: https://bit.ly/31Qihq3
Totem provide all equipment, however participants must register, wear closed in shoes, sunscreen, and bring a snack and drink.
A free BBQ will also be provided by the Y’s Men’s Club.
This event is funded by a Youth Week grant from the NSW Government which could not be used in 2020 due to COVID restrictions.
Broken Hill's new skate park will be designed and built by CONVIC after the company was awarded a $660,000 tender at last month's Council meeting.
