Isaac Regional Council advises Nebo residents of essential testing of Nebo’s water supply bores occurring from:
Monday, 12 April to Wednesday, 28 of April 2021 Weather permitting
Resident’s water supply will not be impacted during this time.
Drawdown testing will occur across the Nebo Aquifer area and existing water bores to ensure the current water volumes are sustainable and meet current and future population requirements of the Nebo township.
What are we doing?
The testing is a requirement by the Regional Development Manufacturing and Water (RDMW) to ensure that the water volumes do not exceed the current licenced amounts. There will be water pumped out of bores 3, 4 and 6 at different intervals at different rates to understand the effects on the aquifer. During the drawdown, large volumes of water will be pumped out for testing and this water will flow into Nebo Creek. Why are we doing it?
Council has been able to secure a temporary increase in water allocation of 150ML on the existing 250ML take of water on the licence. This equates to a total 400ML water supply from the Nebo aquifer and part of the conditions for the regulator granting this extra take of water was to establish the effects on the aquifer and ensure there are no environmental impacts. What’s next?
Following the testing, results are proposed to be presented to the RDMW in July 2021 and a decision for a permanent increase of water take from the Nebo Aquifer is expected. If you require further information please contact Council’s Customer Service Centre available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 1300 ISAACS (1300 472 227).
