The Lithgow Library will be presenting a gallery of Australian Victoria Cross (VC) recipients in the days preceding and after ANZAC Day 2021.
The Victoria Cross is the pre-eminent award for acts of bravery in wartime and is Australia’s highest military honour. It is awarded to persons who, in the presence of the enemy, display the most conspicuous gallantry; a daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice; or extreme duty to duty. Australians have been awarded the Victoria Cross in conflicts from the Boer War (1899-1902) to the war in Afghanistan.
Come and learn what these courageous servicemen did and place a poppy in their memory if you wish. Paper poppies will be available from library staff.
The gallery will be available for viewing from Monday 12th April until Tuesday 4th May 2021, during library open hours 9am-6pm weekdays and 9am-noon on Saturdays.
