Northern Beaches exercise enthusiasts are already enjoying the renovated outdoor gym at the western end of Lagoon Park in Manly, which opened this week.

The open-air gym has seven exercise stations suitable for all ages, levels of fitness and even those who are less mobile.

With a mixture of strength and cardio equipment, the gym area also has space for stretching and weight-bearing exercise. An added feature of the Lagoon Park gym is that each exercise station comes with a QR code that links users to instructional videos from trained fitness professionals.

The gym area is fully funded by Council with the $100,000 installation being part of the Lagoon Park Landscape Plan implementation. Other projects being undertaken in support of this Plan include the recently completed seawall at the eastern end of the park and the upgrade to the picnic area currently underway.

The Northern Beaches boasts nine outdoor gyms across the LGA. Council is presently installing a new outdoor gym at Newport Beach and new gyms are planned for Forestville War Memorial Playing Fields, Lionel Watts Reserve, Frenchs Forest and Tania Park, Balgowlah Heights over coming years.

All Council exercise equipment comes with detailed instructions on each piece of equipment so they can be used safely and effectively.

Prior to installing the gym, Council consulted with the community to inform the design of the equipment. Final designs were also assessed against an industry best practice guide.
