Bluff Rabbitohs christen new amenities building

Sport may have taken a back seat in 2020 due to COVID-19, but the Bluff Rabbitohs still had a win with the construction of their brand-new amenities building under the 2019-20 Works for Queensland program.

Built by Emerald-based business Corbett Homes, the amenities building was shown off at the rugby league club’s recent trial game against Rockhampton.

Club spokesperson Rodney Ohl said the facility is completely fit-for-purpose, meeting all the club’s needs.

‘It is exactly what we wanted, exactly where we wanted it,’ he said.

‘We couldn’t want for anything more.’

The amenities building, located at Maccas Oval in Bluff, features separate change rooms for the away and home teams as well as the referee, showers, toilets and a storeroom.

An official opening for the amenities building will be held on Saturday, 12 June 2021 at Maccas Oval.

With many community activities coming back in 2021, the Central Highlands has been able to reap the benefits of many completed 2019-20 Works for Queensland funded projects including: •Dingo Hall kitchen upgrade •Springsure sports field irrigation replacement •Capella Bridgeman Park sportsground lighting upgrade •Blackwater Hunter Street Sports Complex netball court renewal and Lighting upgrade •Rolleston sports ground new sporting shed •Ceiling insulation and fans at Rolleston campdraft clubhouse •Concreting of Emerald Saleyards delivery lanes •Shade sail at Rubyvale flats playground •Emerald showgrounds electrical and lighting upgrades

These projects are a joint initiative of the Central Highlands Regional Council and the Queensland Government.

‘Not only do these projects deliver great outcomes for our communities, they also create job opportunities, which is particularly important during these times,’ Mayor Kerry Hayes said.

‘Our 2020-21 COVID Works for Queensland funded projects are well underway and we have also just submitted our list of nominated projects to the state government for the 2021-24 funding allocation.’
