Treeby Community and Sports Centre takes shape

Work on the $6.7 million City-funded project has begun, with a ceremonial sod-turning taking place today.
The City worked with the community, stakeholders and a reference group to develop designs for the new facility, with 96 per cent of respondents indicating they were happy with the concept design.
City of Cockburn Head of Community Development Karoline Jamieson said the facility was identified in the Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Plan 2018-2033, and would be an important addition to Treeby, one of the City’s newest suburbs.
“The Treeby Community Association, which was instrumental in helping the City get the project off the ground, will also use the centre on the corner of Clementine Boulevard and Torwood Avenue as a base for regular meetings and events,” Ms Jamieson said.
“The multi-purpose facility will also be home to Fremantle Roosters Rugby League Club during its winter playing season.”
It will comprise multi-functional community activity and meeting spaces, multi-purpose sporting clubrooms and a large undercover area overlooking Treeby Reserve, unisex change rooms, toilets, kitchens and 50 car bays.
Based in the main Treeby town centre, construction by McCorkell Constructions (WA) Ltd is due for completion in early-mid 2022.
Led by City of Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett, today’s sod-turning was attended by Deputy Mayor Lara Kirkwood, Treeby Community Association President Lani Slaughter and Fremantle Roosters Rugby League Club President Steve Revere, Vice President Wendy Mann and Football Director Ryan Foster.
