The City of Hobart Acting Lord Mayor Helen Burnet has paid tribute to Prince Philip's life dedicated to public service and has extended condolences to Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family on behalf of the people of Hobart.

“Prince Philip made a monumental contribution during a long life marked by an unswerving commitment to duty, to service and to his wife, the Queen,” Cr Burnet said.

“His profound support for young people through the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award and his pioneering work for environmental causes touched many people’s lives and made a hugely significant impact.

“In Hobart, we have very fond memories of the Prince who visited us here during his numerous visits to Tasmania, and the people of this City are greatly saddened by his passing.”

Cr Burnet said the City of Hobart would fly flags at half mast from the Hobart Town Hall in recognition of the death of the much-loved and widely-respected Prince.
