As electric vehicles (EV) become more mainstream, it is vital that we have the infrastructure to support them locally.
With this in mind, we are inviting residents to have their say on the draft Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Plan.
The plan will create a framework for establishing a future network of EV charging stations in strategic locations across the Northern Beaches like carparks, on-street sites and at key hubs.
When charged with renewable energy the environmental benefits of switching from fossil fuel polluting vehicles to clean EVs are well-known.
Providing more charging stations helps to reduce what’s known as ‘range anxiety’ among EV drivers and supports our residents to make the switch to green transport solutions.
The plan also aligns with our MOVE Transport Strategy that sets a target of a 30 percent reduction in vehicle emissions by 2038 and our Climate Change Action Plan which includes a range of actions to deliver EV charging infrastructure.
Council currently has eight electric vehicles and 10 hybrid EVs as part of its 379 vehicle fleet.
We are also investigating the cost of transitioning the entire fleet to electric cars by 2023 and exploring other technologies such as hydrogen electric.
