Works schedule – Unsealed road grading program for 29 March – 2 April 2021

Change to trading hours – Friday 16 April 2021. From 11am on Friday, 16 April 2021 Council’s Administration Building will be closed to allow for a critical upgrade to our data and network systems. During this time our staff will have very limited access to phones and email. The community are still able to call our office or email [email protected] for urgent enquiries only. Any service requests, payments and general enquiries will not be actioned until business resumes on Monday. The Yass Library, Transfer stations and Yass Valley Information Centre will not be affected by the system upgrade and will be operating as normal. Our duty officer will still be available for any urgent after-hours enquiries. We apologise for any inconvenience this system upgrade may cause.

 Updates on Major Projects

Burrinjuck Bridge 1 - bridge works have been completed and road works are underway. Burrinjuck Bridge 2 – Works have commenced. There will be changed traffic conditions in place during the construction period as the bridge is going to be constructed in two halves. There will be no heavy vehicle access until further notice, and the bridge will be one lane of approximately 3.2m for vehicles to cross and will have a 5 tonne load limit. Garryowen Bridge – roadworks are being finalised and sealing will now follow Nanima Road – road works are progressing well, 1km has now been sealed with line marking and guard rail installation on this section to be completed in the coming weeks. Wee Jasper Segment 68/Good Hope Road – progressing well onsite, road works underway. Bango Bridge – preliminaries studies are underway. Dog Trap Road - Works have commenced Tenders are now out for Shingle Hill Way and FLR Local Road Rehabilitation

 Construction of shared pathways will commence in the coming weeks in the following locations:

Nash Place, Yass – 130m approx. shared pathway Dutton Street, Yass - 200m approx. shared pathway Victoria Street, Sutton - 136m approx. shared pathway & pedestrian refuge Victoria Street, Sutton – 162m approx. shared pathway & pedestrian refuge Queen Street, Binalong - 130m approx. shared pathway, kerb ramps and a pedestrian refuge

 Residents in these areas will be notified via letterbox drop.

What’s on at the Yass Library!

The TechHelp program is held on Thursdays, by appointment. If you need help with computer basics, getting started online, introduction to online banking, getting to know your device etc. then call the Library on 6226 1305 to book your spot. In May, Movie Mondays will become Friday Flicks with the resumption of PG rated movies in the library. For more information please visit the Library Facebook Page or call 6226 1305. Story Time at the Library is designed for pre-school aged children and runs every Monday morning at 10.30am during the school term

Essential Energy – Community Choices Program now open Essential Energy’s Community Choices program is open again, allowing people across rural, regional and remote NSW and parts of Southern Queensland to vote for grassroots causes that can do with some extra support. A total of $175,000 will be shared by eligible groups across 20 zones in our network area, with funding of up to $2,500 per successful group.

Eligible charities, registered not-for-profit groups and community groups can nominate themselves, or be nominated, from 12 April 2021. Full details are at essentialenergy.com.au/choices.

How much money each nominated organisation receives is determined by how many community votes they receive via the online voting platform. The entire process can be completed online – from nominating to the community voting, which makes it an easily shareable and COVID-safe way to raise funds.

Positions Vacant

Development Standards Engineer Closing: 5pm on Monday, 26 April 2021. The Development Standards Engineer works in a team of Engineering professionals and subject matter experts to oversee Council’s transport and drainage development, engineering referrals, and develop associated engineering standards.

Building Surveyor Closing: 5pm on Monday, 26 April 2021. Lead and drive Council’s certification functions including building and fire certification and all activities undertaken by the principal certifier, to ensure an efficient, timely, customer centric and proactive service is provided.

Tenders

YVC-IA-19-2021 - FLR Local Road Rehabilitation - Stage 1 Closing: 4pm (local time) Tuesday, 27 April 2021. Yass Valley Council manages an extensive road network of over 1,200km throughout the Local Government Area (LGA). Council has received funding under the NSW Governments Fixing Local Roads (FLR) grant funding program, and intends to rehabilitate a number of local roads to provide an improved road surface, improve the serviceability of the roads, and improve safety. Council has identified Illalong Road Segment 7, Morton Avenue Segment 2 and Cusack Place for upgrade in the first stage of his project. This nominated sections of road are generally in poor condition and have reached the end of their useful lives.

YVC-IA-16-2021 - Shingle Hill Way Bridge Construction and Road Realignment Closing: 4pm (local time) Monday, 3 May 2021. Yass Valley Council manages an extensive road network of over 1,200km throughout the Local Government Area (LGA), including numerous bridges and causeways. Council has received funding for the replacement of the existing low level causeway on Shingle Hill Way with a new reinforced concrete bridge structure under the NSW Government Fixing Country Bridges program as well as the Federal Government Bridges Renewal program. The construction of a new bridge and realignment of the road will improve the safety of the route, provide an improved flood immunity, and improve freight productivity.
