Kerang CBD Redevelopment - Stage 2 progressing well

Kerang residents and visitors are already benefiting from Stage 2 of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment, with works along Scoresby Street between Albert and Boundary streets recently completed.

The works, which began late last year, involved improving kerb, channel and footpaths, as well as installing a central traffic island.

“The Kerang CBD Redevelopment – Stage 2 aims to improve connections between the Kerang Railway Station and CBD, focusing on Scoresby Street,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“Works already completed, such as increasing the width of the footpath along Scoresby Street between Albert and Boundary streets and installing additional pedestrian crossing points between Scoresby Street and the entrance to the Kerang Railway Station, have created safer options for pedestrians walking between the railway station and CBD.

“Traffic calming measures, including improvements to the Scoresby/Albert street intersection and installation of the central traffic island, will also improve safety for all users of this road, whilst the planting of 16 trees along the central island during the next three weeks will provide shaded areas for many years to come.”

Meanwhile, the tender for works along Scoresby Street between Fitzroy and Victoria streets will be placed out for tender from Monday, 19 April, with information available at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/tenders

“These improvements along the Scoresby Street section of Kerang’s CBD include the planting of extra trees, installation of bench seating and creating dedicated outdoor seating areas outside the Royal Hotel and Gray’s Bakery,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Council looks forward to commencing these works later this year, which will provide spaces where residents and visitors can socialise and explore what Kerang has to offer.”

The $1.317 million Kerang CBD Redevelopment – Stage 2 is funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
