COUNCIL MEETING THIS WEEK

A reminder first that our next Council meeting is tomorrow, Thursday 15 April 2021 in Jindabyne. Items on the agenda include Council’s new draft operational plan, and a recommendation to approve a new three-cabin tourist accommodation in Jindabyne for the winter season.

BUMPER EASTER BREAK

Easter in our region turned out even better than expected. Wonderful weather and a large number of visitors saw all of our events, from Lake Light Sculpture in Jindabyne to the Berridale and Adaminaby Easter Fairs, achieve great results. Hopefully this season has been the start of a surge in summer tourism for the region.

LAKE SIDE SCAVENGE

A wonderful community initiative, Lake Side Scavenge, is returning to our region this weekend in Jindabyne. Spring into Scavenge rewards participants for cleaning up litter and rubbish. I encourage residents across the Snowy Monaro to head to Jindabyne and pitch in to help keep our region a beautiful place to live, work and visit. Information can be found by searching Jindabyne Lake Side Scavenge.

JINDABYNE SAP CONSULTATION

Last week representatives from the NSW Government working on the Jindabyne Special Activation Precinct held a public consultation at Nugget’s Crossing. The event was very well-attended, with most people voicing their support for the project to get underway as soon as possible. There were, however, concerns voiced about what the changes could mean for the area.

We do not yet have the full details. We do know that the SAP is planning not only for the growth of the tourism industry, but also the family; social; and community services required to serve a growing community. The masterplan will be released in the coming months and the community will be able to provide constructive feedback on what is being proposed.

BUSINESS AND RECOVERY HUB NOW OPEN

Business owners and community members can now access bushfire recovery, business and community services in one place at the new Snowy Monaro Business and Recovery Hub in Cooma. Council is proud to partner with Business Australia on this new initiative to help support ongoing recovery of our region. The Hub is located at 87 Vale Street, Cooma and is open weekdays 8.30am to 4.30pm.
