The Cressbrook Dam campground will be closed to the public from Monday 19 April 2021 while Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) undertakes improvement works.
TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Tim McMahon said the short-term closure would enable Council to upgrade the facilities, including the replacement of the existing communal camp kitchen.
“We know camping at Cressbrook Dam is a much-loved activity for our community members, as well as visitors to the Toowoomba Region who come to camp under the stars and enjoy the great outdoors,” Cr McMahon said.
“The camp kitchen is due for an upgrade and Council will also be completing maintenance works to improve other amenities. We’ve chosen to do both activities at the same time to minimise how long the campground is closed to the public.”
The day use area will remain open for water-based activities, subject to water quality, while the campground is closed.
Cr McMahon said the works were scheduled to ensure the campground remained open for the recent holiday period and to occur during the cooler months.
“The works were proactively scheduled to commence after Easter and school holidays so our community and visitors could enjoy the campground during this time,” Cr McMahon said.
“The autumn-winter season is also the ideal time to complete the works when visitation to the campground is at its lowest. Community members will still be able to use the dam for water-based recreational activities and day trips while the campground works take place.
“Council apologises for any inconvenience caused while the campground is closed but it’s important we undertake regular maintenance on our facilities for the community.
“The works will deliver a much better camping experience for everyone who loves to visit Cressbrook Dam.”
The works are expected to be completed mid-June 2021.
