Movement and connectivity in Darwin

City of Darwin is looking to improve the way in which people move around our city and want to hear your thoughts and aspirations on how this can be achieved into the future.

Council’s first ever Movement Strategy aims to make it easier for people to move around the city by improving streetscapes, infrastructure and connectivity while reducing the impact of transport on the environment.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the Movement Strategy will help prioritise areas for Council such as pedestrian footpaths, shared footpaths, bicycle networks, transport links and shared mobility access to create greater connectivity.

“Council wants to hear from the community about their movement preferences and how we can make it easier for people to walk, cycle, access public transport and use alternative modes of transport, including the use of electric vehicles, to inform the development of the strategy.

“We want our movement network to be modern and sustainable, promoting an active city that is accessible and safe for all residents and visitors,” the Lord Mayor said.

Improvements could include overhauling major intersections, developing a cycling superhighway between key locations and building safer routes that make walking and cycling to schools much easier.

The Movement Strategy will be further supported by other Council initiatives such as SmartDarwin, Greening and Cooling, and Streetscape Beautification.
