Ocean-users are urged to stay safe in the water as Surf Lifesavers prepare to finish their seasonal patrols at the Rivermouth Beach in Prevelly this weekend.
The Shire of Augusta Margaret River contracts Surf Life Saving Australia to conduct patrols in the area throughout summer due to the region’s high number of seasonal visitors.
These are set to end 5pm Sunday 18 April 2021.
Shire Manager Sport and Community Recreation Dylan Brown said no lifeguards would be on duty and beachgoers should take care and exercise caution when entering the water.
“The ocean can be unpredictable, especially in winter, so it’s important you read any safety signs – including the beach identification details – before going for a swim, surf or dive,” he said.
“Enter the water with other people when possible and if you find yourself in trouble, do your best to stay calm and attract attention.”
Patrols at the Rivermouth Beach will resume next summer from Friday 17 December 2021.
