$1.6m grants for school crossings

North Sydney Council has secured more than $1.6m of funding for 11 school road crossing upgrades

More than $1.6m in grants will be spent improving road safety infrastructure around North Sydney schools over the coming months.

Council nominated 14 projects for Transport for NSW’s Road Safety Program - School Zone Infrastructure grants and was successful in 11 of them.

The grants will be used to create raised crossings, to extend kerbs and introduce pedestrian refuge islands, which all help improve visibility and slow down traffic, making children safer as they walk to and from school.

Crossings to be upgraded include:

St Aloysius College Junior School: Installing two raised pedestrian crossings on the Alfred Street South at Fitzroy Street intersection, Milsons Point| St Aloysius College: Installing raised pedestrian crossing on Broughton Street at Kirribilli Avenue, Kirribilli Loreto Kirribilli: Raising existing crossing on Carabella Street at Fitzroy Street, Kirribilli St Aloysius College: Raising existing crossing on Clark Road at Margaret Street, North Sydney Neutral Bay Public School: Raising existing crossing on Ben Boyd Road at Hardie St, Neutral Bay Cammeray Public School: Raising existing crossing on Carter Street at Colin Street, Cammeray Cammeraygal High School: Raising existing crossing on Clarke Street at Willoughby Road, Crows Nest St Aloysius College Junior School: Raising existing crossing on Burton Street, Kirribilli Redlands: Raising existing crossing on Waters Road at Grosvenor Street, Neutral Bay North Sydney Public School: Raising existing crossing on Morton St at Rocklands Rd, Wollstonecraft North Sydney Public School: Constructing pedestrian refuge islands and kerb buildouts on Crows Nest Road at McHatton Street, Waverton

The grants have been allocated from the Federal Government’s new Road Safety Program which prioritises the development and delivery of road safety infrastructure projects across NSW to support jobs and stimulate local economies.
