The City of Wanneroo will extend its sponsorship of the Wanneroo Business Association (WBA) to 2023/24.

Wanneroo Council voted unanimously last night to renew the City’s support for local businesses and their representative body, the WBA.

City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the City was committed to helping local businesses thrive with a varied, appealing and appropriate mix of products and services for the community.

“The City has had a strong and long-standing relationship with the Wanneroo Business Association and this will ensure it continues to grow from strength to strength,” said Mayor Roberts.

“Our 13,000 local businesses are the backbone of our community, providing 54,000 jobs and creating opportunities for our residents to work closer to home.”

City of Wanneroo Manager Advocacy and Economic Development, Steve Marmion, said the sponsorship renewal was a natural alignment to the City’s goals to build an environment that nurtures and supports local business opportunities.

“The renewal of the City’s sponsorship agreement complements our existing efforts to support local small businesses, including the new uDrew Pilot Program designed to streamline the design, planning and approval of building projects, Small Business Friendly Approvals Program and our COVID-19 Economic Recovery Fund, which has been accessed by more than 100 businesses impacted by the pandemic,” he said.

Wanneroo Business Association General Manager Lauren Bell said the renewal of the formal sponsorship agreement with the City of Wanneroo reflected a long standing working relationship between the two organisations.

“A strong partnership is invaluable in situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic, where we could facilitate discussions between local businesses and the City to offer grants from the Economic Recovery Fund to help them access a variety of free services,” she said.

“So far, with the City’s support, WBA’s membership base has grown significantly and we are now recognised Perth wide. We are proud of our relationship with the City and excited to see what more can be achieved over the next three years.”
