Last month, pre-schoolers from Manly Community Pre-school on Kangaroo Street, dropped bags of goodies off to the RSL ANZAC Village in Narrabeen (the War Vets) who were putting together care packages for our Aussie troops posted overseas.
“After talking to the children about the meaning of ANZAC Day we were looking for tangible ways to support our troops serving overseas,” Pre-school Director Lisa Mansfield said.
Teachers called the War Vets who suggested the school’s families participate in a food drive, focussing on favourite Aussie foods that the far-away troops might be missing.
“The children loved adding some extra goodies to their weekly shop knowing that they would be sending them off to our hard-working troops overseas,” Lisa said.
“It was a small gesture from our families, to let the troops know we are thinking about them and appreciate what they are doing, but we know it will have a big impact for those who are so far from home.”
Residents at the War Vets packed the care packages and sent them off in time to reach the troops on ANZAC Day on Sunday.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, things look a bit different this ANZAC Day, but there are still many ways to commemorate locally.
