Communities across the region have expressed their disappointment hearing reports there were an extra 3- 5 hours added to visitors’ journeys over the Easter long weekend.
“It’s frustrating to hear, and it affects our reputation, we don’t want to deter folk from coming back, we need to fast track a safe swift link from Sydney to Central NSW” said WSC Mayor Mark Liebich. “Currently the Bells Line of Road is either closed or open to one lane, and while we welcome the $2.5 billion spend on the Great Western Highway improvements, the community along the GWH can’t be happy with the gridlock situation either.”
The Central NSW JO Councils are seeking to work with the Western Sydney Councils and key stakeholders for solutions before the next Federal election. The many existing State and Federal transport plans acknowledge the need for a safe swift link in the longer term – whenever that is. For over a decade NSW Regional Transport Plans have talked about a long term solution, but we are no closer.
While the immediate issue is to enable tourism, a safe swift link is required for freight and the economic development of this region.
“We need a time frame, and action now, that we can support in achieving that timeframe” said Mayor Liebich. “In the meantime we need to work with our friends and relatives in Sydney to encourage them to stay an extra night or two to avoid the traffic jam in both directions.”

A total of $175,000 will be shared amongst eligible charities, registered not-for-profit groups and community groups across 20 zones in the Essential Energy network area, with funding of up to $2,500 per group. The amount of money received by each group is determined by how many community votes they receive via the online voting platform.

Nominations will be received up until 5pm Monday 10 May 2021. Community voting will take place between 9am Tuesday 18 May 2021 and 5pm Monday 31 May 2021.
CHEMICAL CLEANOUTResidents are advised that Council, in collaboration with NetWaste will be holding a Household Chemical CleanOut Day for Weddin Shire on Tuesday 4 May 2021 from 10am until 1pm.
Residents are encouraged to clear out unwanted hazardous chemicals from around the home and correctly dispose of them for free at the Grenfell Waste Depot. The following will be accepted at the drop off point:
Only household quantities will be accepted (20L or 20kg, except for paint of which 100L will be accepted in 20L containers). Residents are asked to transport materials carefully and remain in their vehicles at the collection site.

GARBAGE BIN WEIGHT LIMITResidents are advised that Council’s garbage truck is unable to lift bins that exceed 90kg. Bins that are heavier than this maximum weight limit will not be emptied.
It is the responsibility of the resident to ensure that bins that have not been emptied due to excessive weight are unloaded so as not to exceed 90kg; the lighter bins will then be collected on the next relevant garbage run. Alternatively, rubbish can be disposed of at one of Council’s Waste Depots.
NOTICE OF WORKS – COMPANY DAM AMENITIESResidents are hereby advised that Council has engaged contractors to carry out construction works at the site of the existing amenities at Company Dam from Monday 3 May 2021 until the end of June 2021, weather permitting.
During these works the road shoulder at the site will be barricaded off and traffic control will be in place; nearby residents and motorists using the dam access road are asked to adhere to the additional road safety signage.
Some noise and dust disturbance is expected due to the use of various plant and equipment onsite, however any impact to residents will be minimised where possible.
