Macedon Ranges Shire Council has welcomed the Victorian Government’s announcement of $3.2 million towards constructing the passive areas in Stage 1 of the Macedon Ranges Regional Sports Precinct.
Local Government Minister Shaun Leane announced Macedon Ranges Shire Council would receive $3.2 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund, which helps Melbourne’s rapidly developing interface and peri-urban councils deliver high-quality facilities for their communities.
Council was pleased to host the Hon. Mary-Anne Thomas, Member for Macedon, and representatives from local sports groups at the Regional Sports Precinct site on Friday 16 April to celebrate the announcement.
Shane Walden, Director of Assets and Operations, said the funding contribution would play a vital role in delivering a state-of-the-art facility for the community.
“We’re grateful to receive this funding which will create passive recreation spaces including the site pathway network, playground, picnic area, and Stage 1 landscape works.”
“Providing both indoor and outdoor facilities, the Macedon Ranges Regional Sports Precinct will cater for a range of sports and recreational pursuits while also attracting regional-level competition.”
As well as thanking the Victorian Government, Mr Walden acknowledged the contribution of local sporting clubs and their role in the Regional Sports Precinct Project.
“We are fortunate to have a passionate group of representatives from our local sports clubs who continue to support and give feedback as the project progresses,” he said.
The Regional Sports Precinct will spread across two interconnected sites in New Gisborne, at the corner of Barringo and Hamilton roads. It will provide community facilities for sport, health and fitness activities and events.
The project design will ensure delivery in stages aligned with the available funding. Before this funding announcement of $3.2 million, $21.7 million has been committed to the project by Council, the Victorian Government and AFL Victoria. These funds will allow the completion of the design and the first stage of construction. The complete project is estimated to cost $41.4 million.
