Helping school gardens grow with free compost

Published on 20 April 2021

Are you ready for International Compost Awareness Week? Council is celebrating from 2-8 May with free compost deliveries for schools and early learning centres across the shire!

Schools and early learning centres can apply online for their compost donation.

Five lucky residents will also win a free delivery of compost. To enter, keep an eye on Macedon Ranges Shire Council’s website and social media channels during these dates for our Compost Week competition!

During International Compost Awareness Week, Council will also share information and tips on starting your own compost, why compost is essential and making the most out of your FOGO bin.

Shane Walden, Director Assets and Operations, encouraged schools and early learning centres to apply for a compost donation.

“Food and garden waste collected in FOGO bins is converted into compost. Using FOGO means we reduce waste going into landfill and have compost available for local use – helping gardens grow across the shire.

“We’re excited to celebrate Compost Awareness Week with local schools, early learning centres and residents across the shire by offering free compost and talking all things FOGO.”
