Council’s annual Heavy Vehicle Forum made its return last week at Cooma Ex-services Club, with this year’s event putting the focus on women in the heavy vehicle industry.

The event is a drawcard for the region, attracting representatives from industry, government and the education sector for a series of talks and demonstrations covering contemporary issues and new developments affecting transport and freight.

There was a particular focus on women’s experiences in the industry and the contributions they make to its ongoing success, with speakers from Transport Women Australia and Snowy Monaro Regional Council. Women’s contributions through family business were covered by a speaker from A & R Magill Transport from Bourke.

Transport for NSW’s Executive Director of Freight Susie Harwood and Ellen Rummery from Future Generation also spoke at the event.

“The transport and freight industry is a major employer and economic driver in our region, and it was a pleasure and privilege to bring back the Heavy Vehicle Forum for 2021,” said Mayor Peter Beer, Snowy Monaro Regional Council.

An additional highlight on the day was TAFE NSW demonstrating their heavy vehicle simulator, which is an innovative and important tool for the assessment and training of workers in the industry.

“Events like this help our region to foster connections within, and further development of, our important industries. The calibre of speakers and presentations made this year one of the event’s best,” said Mayor Beer.
