Have Your Say on the 2021/22 Waste Services Program for the Lithgow LGA

29 April, 2021

Lithgow City Council has endorsed its Draft 2021/22 Operational Plan and Schedule of Fees & Charges.  We invite all residents of the Lithgow LGA to get involved and have their say on the proposed Waste Services Program for 2021/22.

In response to EPA requirements, and in line with the Lithgow Waste Strategy, Council has been progressively closing its rural landfills, constructing Waste Transfer Stations and upgrading the Lithgow Solid Waste Facility.

In addition to the new Resource Recovery Centre opening in 2021, Council proposes to spend $393k on waste infrastructure renewal and education as follows:

Continuing to implement leachate management, landfill development and rehabilitation of areas filled under the new filling plan for the Lithgow Solid Waste Facility. Maintaining and developing waste trenches at Rural Landfills. Improving security at Hampton Transfer Station including fencing and a security camera. Providing site amenities at Portland landfill site shed for staff. Undertaking maintenance to Meadow Flat Transfer Station cage to repair gates and gaps. Rehabilitation of completed areas at Wallerawang Landfill in accordance with EPA guidelines. Updating the Lithgow Council Waste Strategy in line with recent changes in the waste industry and the upcoming EPA 20 Year Waste Strategy.

Council’s Director of Economic Development & Environment, Andrew Muir will be conducting a live Facebook event on 6 May at 3pm to present the 2021/22 Waste Services Program.  Members of the community are invited to register for the event via Facebook.  The event will also be recorded and available for viewing on Council’s website for those unable to attend the live session.  Questions about Council’s Waste Services Program can be emailed to [email protected] or via the facebook event.
