Learn about local history with ‘Blue Mountains Stories: A moment in time’

‘Blue Mountains Stories: A moment in time’ is an exciting joint initiative between Blue Mountains City Council and our local museums and historical societies with museum collections. It will give each participating museum an opportunity to provide the community with a glimpse of what they have on offer, using a small exhibition space at Katoomba Library. Each participating museum will curate a small exhibition at Katoomba Library for two months, which will provide a small window into their collection. 

Blue Mountains Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said: “These museums hold important and unique historical objects that tell stories about the Blue Mountains.

“We have a wealth of interesting and wonderful local history, and it’s a shame that so many in the community aren’t aware that it’s right here for them to explore and enjoy.

“Largely run by volunteers, these museums are the custodians of our local heritage and play a crucial role in our community by providing opportunities for us to engage with our past. 

“I’m really excited about this project, and the prospect that a whole new group of people will be exposed to that heritage, and support the wonderful work of these museums and historical societies.”

The museums participating in the project are: •    Tarella Cottage (Blue Mountains Historical Society)  •    Glenbrook and District Historical Society •    Mount Victoria and District Historical Society  •    Valley Heights Locomotive Depot Heritage Museum •    Woodford Academy (National Trust of NSW)

The first exhibition is on now at Katoomba Library, showcasing Tarella Cottage at Wentworth Falls (Blue Mountains Historical Society). The exhibition is free and open to the whole community. The next museum’s exhibition will begin in June, and will feature Glenbrook and District Historical Society.
