Demolition marks a new beginning for Mona Vale SLSC

A new spacious and environmentally friendly clubhouse is on its way to Mona Vale Beach with the demolition of the existing Surf Life Saving Club and nearby amenities building scheduled to start on Monday.

The new surf club will include dedicated facilities for nippers, storage for the local board riders club, a function space, a first aid room, family change facilities, improved accessibility as well as a café, and restaurant.

This project includes the demolition and rebuild of the existing beach amenities block (The Shed) and includes male and female toilets, showers, change rooms, an accessible toilet and provision for lifeguards and first aid.

Locals, lifeguards and clubbies are thrilled with the long-awaited new facilities that will be rebuilt on the same footprint, with increased floor space, totalling 1690m2 over two levels.  

Both new buildings focus on implementing environmentally sustainable initiatives, with solar panels, recycled rainwater, and a selection of raw, earthy and robust materials that will withstand the coastal environment.

While the demolition milestone is bitter-sweet for the 98-year-old club and its 1300 members, it is a welcome one. The rebuild gives professional and volunteer lifeguards better spaces to carry out their essential service to the community and the public amenities will give local swimmers and beachgoers a building that is modern, sustainable and fit for purpose.

This project results from a strong collaboration between Mona Vale SLSC, the local community, Northern Beaches Council and the State Government.

Weather permitting, this project is expected to take 12-14 months to complete.

This major development is in addition to works that commenced earlier this month at Long Reef for a new Surf Lifesaving Club also.
