A new outdoor gym, half basketball court and handball court have opened at Newport Beach today.

The facilities are purposely built for teens, providing much-needed facilities for local youth (aged 12-17), giving them a healthy and constructive way to spend time with friends in their neighbourhood.

Fences came down on Thursday and as soon as the school bells rang, kids were swarming the new facility.

Funding for the $100,000 project came from Council’s Youth Facilities Program. The final design of the outdoor space was produced collaboratively with local youth, the Newport SLSC and the general community was consulted on the project throughout 2019/20. Their feedback helped shaped the final plans for the space.

The opening of the new half-court and fitness station at Newport follows new basketball courts at Avalon, North Manly and Warriewood, continuing Council’s commitment to providing places where young people can be safe and play.
