COVID limits Margaret River Surf Pro site capacity

Some big swells are forecast for the imminent Margaret River Surf Pro with the event opening window running 2-12 May 2021.
Due to COVID, North Point will not be available as a wave option this year and spectator capacity at Surfers Point is reduced from 5000 to 2500 people.
Shire of Augusta Margaret River Chief Executive Officer Stephanie Addison-Brown asked community members and visitors to be patient as they head down to watch the event.
“We are wonderfully fortunate that this event is able to go ahead this year,” she said.
“The event is a fantastic showcase of elite athleticism. It's also an excellent opportunity for social engagement and wellbeing messaging.
“The media coverage from the event goes international which is so valuable in position in Margaret River as a tourism destination and premium producer for trade and export purposes.
“We are aware the restrictions on this year may cause limitations in attending the event site on the bigger wave days.
“Please be patient, adhere to signage and instructions by the traffic marshals, and comply to onsite COVID capacity requirements.”
Ms Addison-Brown reminded people Riflebutts Reserve will cease being a Dog Exercise Area between 7am and 5pm on surfing days due to the area being used for event parking. Dog owners can use the reserve outside of these hours, or head to the nearby Riflebutts dog beach.
