Shire declares end to 2020/21 fire season

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River will suspend the Restricted Burning Period for the whole of the local government area from midnight Friday 30 April 2021.
The recent rainfall has dampened fuel loads to reduce the risk of potential fires, with more rain expected in the coming week.
The suspension officially marks the end of the 2020-21 bushfire season with minimal incidents recorded.
Shire Deputy Chief Bush Fire Control Officer Quentin Blunsdon thanked community members for the collective efforts in reducing fire risk by practicing property preparedness and exercising responsible fire behaviour.
“Well done everyone and thank you for your diligence regarding fire prevention,” he said.
“We have been fortunate this year with no major incidents to mention.
“Continue the good work over the cooler months.
“If you are the owner of a larger property keep chipping away at your property preparedness in increments so the task is not overwhelming come spring.”
My Blunsdon reminded all community members and visitors that while campfires are now permitted they must only ever be lit in designated areas.
Permits are no longer required, however please give your local Fire Control Officer a courtesy call if you intend to burn large areas or large volumes of fuel load. For more information of fire requirements please refer to the 2020-21 Fire Notice available on the Shire’s website.
