New exhibition brings the audience inside the creative process

A new exhibition opening at Ararat Gallery TAMA brings together the works of 15 Australian artists with a visual story of the hands-on process that led to each creation.

Developed by the Australian Design Centre, Obsessed: Compelled to make, ADC On Tour presents a two-channel art and video piece that juxtaposes the completed physical artwork with an intimate exploration on film which reveals the process behind each work.

Touring throughout Australia, the exhibition opens at Ararat Gallery TAMA on Saturday 1 May.

Ararat Rural City Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison said the exhibition was a great opportunity for people to learn more about the struggle behind the creativity.

“People have unique and different interpretations of art they see in front of them,” Dr Harrison said.

“While this is often what makes an artwork thought provoking, many people also wonder about the actual story the artist intended for their artwork to convey.

“The most interesting aspect of this exhibition is that it uncovers what drives each of these artists, exploring their motivation, frustration, persistence and talent to create something new.”

Obsessed: Compelled to make was developed under a Visions of Australia research grant and is Australian Design Centre’s major national touring exhibition, supported by the Federal Government’s Visions of Australia program.
