Did you know…?

The Lithgow Local Government area totals 4,567km2 extending from the Capertee and Wolgan Valleys in the north, Little Hartley, Kanimbla and Megalong in the east, Tarana in the south and Meadow Flat in the west. Within this area Council is responsible for:

877.1km of roads 533.2km of sealed roads (23.4km Regional, 175.1km urban and 334.7km rural) 343.9km of unsealed roads (16.5 km urban and 327.4 km rural) 42 bridges 36 vehicle bridges 7 pedestrian bridges

How do we prioritise our transport infrastructure program?

There are a number of considerations which require careful thought prior to resealing a sealed asset, resheeting an unsealed asset, or sealing an unsealed asset. Road classification, traffic counts, ongoing maintenance requirements, tourism routes, heavy vehicle routes, geometric constraints and strategic detour routes are all carefully considered when allocating a pool of limited yearly resources to Council’s major projects. Council continues to adjust, revise and improve upon this process to best ensure the communities needs a met today and into the future.

During 2021/22 council proposes to spend $8.9m on transport infrastructure. Projects include:

$5m upgrade to Airlie Creek, Coco Creek and Crown Creek timber bridges on the Glen Davis Road in the Capertee Valley funded by the State Governments Fixing Country Bridges Program. Bitumen reseal of Second Street, Littleton and Enfield Avenue, Lithgow funded from the Special Rate Variation Program. Renewal of the following unsealed roads: Wolgan Road (subject to grant funding) Cullenbenbong and Glen Chee Road Hassans Walls and Braceys Lookout Road Dunville Loop and Genowlan Road. 2 coat Bitumen reseal Hartley Vale Road, Hartley and Petra Avenue, Clarence. Roads to Recovery Program Select sections of Sodwalls/Tarana Road from Rydal Hampton Road to Tarana Stephenson Street, Lithgow Purchase Street Lane, Portland Clwydd Street Lane, Vale of Clwydd Thompsons Creek Road, Meadow Flat Ray Crescent and Petra Avenue, Clarence Grant funded replacement, repair and reseal of Mutton Falls Road, Tarana as part of the Tablelands Way Tourist Route
