Following one month of community consultation meetings and public feedback opportunities, submissions on Council’s Draft Resource and Waste Management Strategy will close on Thursday 6 May 2021.
Nine community meetings were held across the region, from Bredbo to Delegate, as part of the wider community engagement process. There has so far been a good level of contribution through Council’s YourSay page and it’s not too late to get involved.
“I’d like to extend thanks on behalf of Council to all those that attended our community consultations and provided feedback to us on this draft strategy,” said Mayor Peter Beer.
“With the commitment and participation of our community throughout this process, we are able to ensure that the whole region has a say in how waste is dealt with and to make sure our plans represent the best interests of the people.”
From the feedback received so far through the online portal and community sessions, the main points the community has been talking about include the addition of a food organics and garden organics (FOGO) bin to areas with kerbside collection, transition for many areas from transfer stations to a bank of bins, and changes to landfill and transfer stations.
Following amalgamation of the three former Councils that make up the Snowy Monaro, addressing ageing and inefficient waste infrastructure has been a major priority. Making provisions for modern day waste management and reducing waste to landfill are key considerations too.
The community is encouraged to find full information, presentations from each community information session, and a final opportunity for direct feedback online through Council’s YourSay page at www.yoursaysnowymonaro.nsw.gov.au finishing Thursday 6 May 2021.
