The City of Swan has partnered with Gidge Rural to provide free weed control supplies to residents impacted by the Wooroloo bushfires.
Post-fire is the best time to tackle weeds, as they are small and easy to remove. However, with the recent rain, it is likely that weeds will begin germinating within the burnt and unburnt areas of properties.
The Gidge Rural team are supplying a range of herbicides, so residents will be able to control the spread of weeds on their properties that have been exacerbated by the fires. This will reduce the risk of weed species being spread through waterways and across the region.
Gidge Rural Owner Helen Martin said the response from residents so far has been positive.
βIt is still early days, but impacted residents have been very grateful and appreciative, as it is one less thing they have to worry about,β she said.
"Now is the time to get on-top of your weed control, as the wetter months approach."
Gidge Rural is located at 1516 Toodyay Road Gidgegannup, west of Country Road. Residents can come to the store, but will need to provide their ID, address and size of their property β this will determine the amount given to each property owner. Free weed control supplies are available now.
