Good news flows to Cecil Plains as Council relaxes High level water restrictions

After many months of High level water restrictions, Cecil Plains residents are in for some reprieve with Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) winding back restrictions to Medium level effective immediately. The decision comes after welcome rain recently filled Cecil Plain’s weir, improving upstream water sources. TRC Water and Waste Committee Chair Cr Rebecca Vonhoff said it was great news for Cecil Plains and she thanked residents for their efforts. “After some good rainfall, Cecil Plains Weir is overflowing and after careful consideration Council decided to wind back restrictions, for now,” Cr Vonhoff said. “Cecil Plains was placed on High level water restrictions in 2019 and it’s important to acknowledge the significant impact prolonged restrictions have on residents. “I am very pleased some of the pressure can be taken off this community and I would like to thank Cecil Plains residents for their hard work. “The region is still being impacted by drought so it’s important everyone remain vigilant and continue to conserve water. Every drop still counts.” Following a recent visit to Cecil Plains for its Anzac Day ceremony, TRC Water and Waste Portfolio Leader Cr Nancy Sommerfield asked Council for a review of the restrictions given the weir’s increased water level. Cr Sommerfield said she welcomed Council’s decision to ease restrictions, but it was still important for communities to remember water saving measures remain in force across the region particularly during the traditionally dry winter season. “Cecil Plains will now join most towns and localities across the region which are on Medium level restrictions, but High level restrictions remain in place for residents at Cambooya, Clifton, Vale View and Yarraman,” Cr Sommerfield said. “Council’s website contains advice around water saving initiatives and tips for restricting household water use when showering and cleaning in and around the home. “I would encourage residents in Cecil Plains to visit the TRC website for more information on what Medium level water restrictions mean for them.” Under Medium level water restrictions, each person in a household should be using 175 litres of water or less each day. Residents who live in odd numbered properties can water gardens on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, while residents in even or unnumbered properties can water gardens on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
