BUSINESS AND RECOVERY HUB
I was delighted to attend the official opening of the new Snowy Monaro Business and Recovery Hub in Cooma last week. While more than one year has passed since the 2019-20 bushfires, their extent has meant recovery efforts are still ongoing and the Hub will provide a one-stop shop for connecting community members and business owners with bushfire recovery support, and business and community services.
I’d like to thank our local Federal Member Kristy McBain for attending the opening and I encourage all community members requiring assistance to make use of this resource. The Business and Recovery Hub is located at 57 Vale Street, Cooma, and is open weekdays 8.30am to 4.30pm. No appointments required, simply drop in to speak with the team.
COMMUNITY GROUP FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
A reminder for community groups of two funding opportunities. Details and applications can be found on Council’s website.
1) Council’s donations and sponsorships program is offered twice per year to help not-for-profit community based programs in the region achieve their objectives. Submissions for July to December 2021 are now open and close at 11.59pm on Thursday 13 May 2021.
2) Boco Rock Community Enhancement Fund is an opportunity for community groups and organisations located within the former Bombala and Cooma-Monaro Local Government Areas. Applications for the 2021 fund open on 1 June 2021 and close 12 July 2021.
STRATEGY ON PUBLIC EXHIBITION
Council team members have travelled around the region over the past month to meet with communities on the Draft Resource and Waste Management Strategy. I would like to thank everyone that came along to our community presentations and remind anyone that would like to submit their feedback to do so as soon as possible. This phase of consultation ends for the waste strategy on Thursday 6 May 2021.
As always feedback can be provided in person, online, via email or telephone.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
Finally this week I’d like to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, care givers and those that fulfill the role of a mother. This is a day to thank them for everything they do for us and also to remember those we have lost and fondly remember.
