DISASTER DASHBOARD

I and many others were taken by surprise last week as our region was struck by a magnitude 3.2 earthquake. Thankfully, damage was minimal, but the response to Council’s communication on the event reinforced the importance of keeping informed.

The Snowy Monaro Disaster Dashboard collates information on COVID-19 cases, fire incidents, flood incidents, road conditions, weather radar, power outages, emergency news, and has links to ABC Radio and Council.

UPCOMING LAW WEEK EVENTS

Our libraries, working together with The Law Society of NSW and Shoalcoast Community Legal Centre, are running some events in Cooma on Monday 17 May and Thursday 20 May 2021.

Their “Planning Ahead: Wills, Power of Attorney & More” course will help our older residents understand what’s required to get their affairs in order. It’s often an uncomfortable subject to confront, but it’s an important to get it sorted as soon as possible.

I encourage you to attend – call 1300 345 345 or email [email protected] to book your place.

WORLD-RENOWNED ARCHITECT SPEAKING TO COUNCIL

The eminent Australian architect Peter Stutchbury is speaking to Council about emerging and contemporary principles in housing design, planning and construction.

Mr. Stutchbury is a multi-award winning architect, renowned the world over for designing buildings that are sympathetic to, and show consideration of, their natural environment.

Councillors and local chambers of commerce have been invited to attend as we continue to focus on housing in our region.

RSPCA 40th BIRTHDAY

The RSPCA in our region celebrate their 40th birthday this weekend. This 100% volunteer-run organisation serving our entire region is responsible for rehoming the vast majority of stray and abandoned animals in the Snowy Monaro.

I’ll be at Banjo Paterson Park on the Jindabyne Foreshore with my dog from 10am - 12pm on Saturday 15 May to celebrate and hope to see you there.

More festivities will be held at the Cooma Rotary Market, Sunday 16 May from 9am - 1pm.
