The City of Fremantle has expanded its Tech Help program, which aims to increase the confidence, skills and online safety of older Fremantle residents using the internet.
The program was initially developed in response to research exposing the dangers of the digital divide during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Facilitated by volunteers, the Tech Help one-on-one sessions are held three times a week at Fremantle Library, and are designed to help people understand essential technology learnings and help familiarise them with their own smartphones, laptops, tablets and other devices.
Since launching the Tech Help For All group classes in October 2020, the program has assisted less tech-savvy people with learning to search the internet, opening an online bank account, navigating their MyGov and Centrelink accounts and other tech basics required for day-to-day living.
Tech Help one-on-one sessions are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9.30–11.30am in the library.
