Campbelltown residents can now have their say on the draft Waste and Resource Recovery Education Strategy 2021-2024.
It outlines the actions and education programs Council will take over the coming years to educate and support the community to further improve recycling practices and minimise waste..
“Everyone has a role to play in minimising waste, reducing contamination and improving sustainability,” Mayor George Brticevic said.
“As our community continues to grow it’s important that we put practices into place that reduce our impact on the environment and minimise contamination of recyclable materials so that we can further reduce landfill and improve resource recovery,” Cr Brticevic said.
“Improving resource recovery is a good thing for the environment – but it also has an important financial benefit for the community, by reducing waste disposal costs. But those savings are only possible when we get the right things in the right bins,” he said.
The strategy details four main themes:
Encouraging the correct use of the 3-bin system. Leading and promoting sustainable waste management approaches. Increased resource recovery of household problem wastes. Supporting the community’s role in achieving best practice waste management and meeting sustainability goals and outcomes.The strategy is on public exhibition until Wednesday 9 June.
