Inspiring and graceful sculpture finds its place in Elsternwick Park

His Worship The Mayor Cr Laurence Evans OAM and Councillors invite you and your family to the launch of Bayside’s new public artwork ‘Spirit of Place’.

This graceful and inspiring metal sculpture, by master blacksmith and artist David Wood, references the Phragmite australis reeds that grow in Elsternwick Park and are indigenous to the local area. ‘Spirit of Place’ is a meeting point for family and friends, a seat for quiet reflection and somewhere for children to play surrounded by art and nature.

The artist David Wood was chosen following an Expressions of Interest process, which included an Artist’s Brief, informed by community feedback.  Enjoy this video detailing the artist’s journey creating ‘Spirit of Place’.
