Disaster and emergency preparedness presentations are being held in Cooma, Jindabyne and Bombala this month for Snowy Monaro seniors.
The three hour sessions will provide seniors practical steps to better equip themselves to respond in emergencies such as bushfires, floods and snowstorms.
Older regional and rural residents can be particularly vulnerable to disasters and emergencies, but having a plan and being well-prepared can make all the difference. The ‘Get Ready’ presentation brings together representatives from Red Cross, Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Police, SES, and Snowy Monaro Regional Council Support Services – all ready to answer community questions.
“It’s crucially important to prepare for disasters and emergencies, especially when living rurally and regionally,” said Mayor Peter Beer, Snowy Monaro Regional Council.
“These sessions will give our senior residents the practical advice they need to respond to fire, flood, snowstorms, or whatever else may come our way. Being prepared can make all the difference, so if you’re one of our older residents – RSVP today.”
Sessions will be held: •In Cooma on Monday, 24 May 2021 at Cooma Hotel – 10am to 1pm •In Jindabyne on Tuesday, 25 May 2021 at Rydges Horizons Snowy Mountains – 10am to 1pm •In Bombala on Wednesday, 26 May 2021 at Club Bombala – 10am to 1pm

These sessions are supported through project funding under the Bushfire Recovery and Resilience Fund, a joint Commonwealth/State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangement that also provided for the operation of the newly opened Business Recovery Hub in Cooma.
