Wanneroo Council has unanimously endorsed the City of Wanneroo Advocacy Plan 2021-2025.

The Plan sets out the City’s advocacy focus for future Federal and State elections, and aims to influence government funding of projects that will benefit residents and local businesses until 2025.

The top nine projects in the Plan are outlined under three themes:

'Liveability’ – a place where people want to live  ‘Sustainability’ – economic, environmental and societal outcomes to meet our needs now without compromising the future ‘Productivity’ – working smarter not harder.

The top ‘Liveability’ projects include:

development of the Alkimos Aquatic and Recreation Centre designing designated areas to support sports, leisure and recreation, specifically reserves and regional open spaces in Yanchep and Alkimos upgrades to the Wanneroo Recreation Centre and Precinct Cycling Wanneroo – creating a cycle friendly environment for users.

Top ‘Sustainability’ projects include the development of the Neerabup Waste Innovation Precinct, and water and agribusiness sustainability planning.

Top ‘Productivity’ projects include the Neerabup Strategic Link (including Flynn Drive), activation of the Yanchep Metropolitan Centre, and strengthening the City’s air, sea, road and rail freight links to facilitate business development and growth.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the projects outlined in the Plan aim to positively impact and meet the region’s growing business and community needs.

“As our community continues to expand, so do its priorities,” Mayor Roberts said.

“The Advocacy Plan 2021-2025 identifies key projects that will have the greatest impact on residents, local businesses, and the wider community, providing a framework to secure the support required to make them a reality.”

Wanneroo Business Association President Nigel Santa Maria said the City’s Advocacy Plan offered a strong decision making tool that would enable the City to gain political support and funding of critical infrastructure to benefit businesses and the community.

“The Wanneroo Business Association is looking forward to working with the City of Wanneroo in advocating to government agencies and political stakeholders to influence and attract the right investment for the benefit of the City’s residents and visitors,” he said.

“This new Plan sets targets and projects for us all to collectively work towards over the next four years.”

The Plan aligns with the Advocacy Project Evaluation Guidelines adopted by Council in 2020, and the Priority Infrastructure Projects list that informed the City’s advocacy efforts prior to the 2021 State election.
