Liverpool City Council invites residents to join Liverpool’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to commemorate National Sorry Day.

A ceremony will be held on 26 May from 10:30am to 11:30am at the Liverpool Regional Museum, 462 Hume Highway, Liverpool.

Sorry Day is a time to acknowledge the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families.

Council’s ceremony will include an Acknowledgement of Country, a flag-raising ceremony, short-film screenings, and a speech from the Mayor of Liverpool Wendy Waller.

“This is a day for Liverpool residents to gather and recognise the painful legacy of the Stolen Generations in our community,” Mayor Waller said.

“Everyone in the community is welcome to attend and participate in this important day.”

Guests will be invited to lay wreaths at the Stolen Generations Memorial Tree at the front of the Liverpool Regional Museum.

This event also marks the start of National Reconciliation Week which runs from 27 May to 3 June.
