Liverpool City Library, in partnership with South West Sydney Legal Centre, is hosting information sessions throughout Law Week to help educate residents across the Liverpool Local Government Area about the law.
Law Week, running from 17 to 23 May, is a nationwide initiative to further promote community awareness and understanding of the law, the legal system, and the legal profession.
Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said, “Our law and legal system can be a minefield for many Australians, particularly migrants. For many people facing legal issues, it is possible that they would not know what to do and who to turn to.
“The importance of initiatives like this cannot be understated. Understanding how to address basic legal questions helps to ensure the law is accessible for people of all different backgrounds.”
Following the popularity of last year, Liverpool City Library is hosting two information sessions featuring legal experts from South West Sydney Legal Centre.
The first session, Car Crashes and the Law, will be held on Tuesday 18 May, from 1pm – 2pm, covering common questions around what to do immediately after a car accident, when cars or property have been damaged or when someone is injured, as well as tips for dealing with insurance.
The second session, How to Deal with Your Fines, will take place on Friday 21 May from 10am – 11am, walking attendees through the process of receiving and contesting a fine.
Each presentation will include an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.
“I invite residents from across the Liverpool Government Area to take advantage of these information sessions which can help them feel more confident and prepared to deal with what are common yet potentially stressful experiences,” Mayor Waller said.
Mayor Waller said access to helpful information sessions like these are just one of the benefits Liverpool City Library members receive along with access to around 270,000 items in the collection at the library or online at home.
“Our libraries offer members the ability to borrow up to 50 items in 18 languages from around the world, and access dozens of databases for research, homework, assignments, and hobbies,” Mayor Waller said.
Register this month as a member of Liverpool City Library to go in a draw to win a family pass (2 adults and 2 children) to THEM by multiple-award winning playwright Samah Sabawi on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 August at Casula Powerhouse.
