Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is undertaking maintenance and repairs to Milne Bay Aquatic Centre (MBAC) from 31 May through to September.

With works required to multiple areas of MBAC, TRC Environment and Community Committee Chair Cr James O’Shea said a full closure of the facility would be required.

“A large section of the centre will be under construction and with multiple contractors on site, it was deemed necessary to have a full closure of the centre to protect the safety of our patrons,” Cr O’Shea said.

“We understand how important this facility is to our community so we will be working as quickly as we can to have our doors back open to the public as soon as possible.

“Each year Council undertakes regular maintenance of pools throughout the Region during the cooler months however with further repairs required for this facility, we believe it would be safer for us to have a full closure while this work takes place.

“We’ve scheduled the works during the winter months to minimise the impact on our community.

“These works are critical to ensure this ageing asset is ready for the coming 2021/22 summer season.”

Works being undertaken at MBAC include:

Resurfacing of the wave pool and program pool flooring Removal of existing carbon filters in the pool and replacing them with a more contemporary UV filtration system Renovation of the foyer area.

“During the closure, all centre memberships will be held on suspension for the duration of the works,” Cr O’Shea said.

“Our staff are also in the process of working with members to find alternate locations to swim or attend a gym during this period.
