Council’s Operational Plan and budget are on exhibition

The draft 2021/22 Operational Plan and budget are on public exhibition and people are asked to have a look at the documents and get back to Council with their thoughts and comments.

The Operational Plan details the individual projects and activities that will be undertaken in 2021/22 to achieve the commitments made in the Delivery Program. Both are part of a suite of Integrated Planning and Reporting documents developed to achieve the objectives identified as priorities for the local community in the Community Strategic Plan, Our Byron Our Future.

The Operational Plan includes the detailed annual budget which provides a full list of all scheduled capital works. The accompanying Statement of Revenue Policy outlines the proposed rates and fees and charges.

The 2021/22 Operational Plan and budget recognise the increasing pressure on Council’s finances and strive to balance prudent financial management with a continued focus on improving infrastructure now and into the future, and providing quality services to the community.

Byron Shire Council is proposing a capital works program of $61.8 million in 2021/2022. Projects earmarked for delivery in the next financial year include:

$24.5 million for local roads and drainage $19 million for sewerage infrastructure $4 million for water infrastructure $4.2 million for facilities including $3.5 million for the redevelopment of the old Byron Bay hospital site $1 million for open space and recreation $3.55 million for the remediation of the landfill and improvements to the leachate control system at the Resource and Recovery Centre at Myocum

The documents are on exhibition until 11 June 2021.
