The awarding of the tender for the Cohuna All Abilities Adventure Playground and the noting of the Victorian Electoral Commission 2020 Local Government Elections – Gannawarra Shire Council Election Report highlighted Gannawarra Shire Council’s May 2021 meeting.

Held at the Kerang Senior Citizens Clubrooms, the major highlight of the meeting was the awarding of the Cohuna All Abilities Adventure Playground tender, which forms part of the $3.4 million Cohuna CBD and Waterfront Connections Project, to CJ & BT McLoughlan Pty Ltd.

To be located in Apex Park adjacent to recently installed barbecue shelters and Cohuna Beach, key features of the playground’s proposed design include a stand-up see saw that pumps water into a water channel, a three-storey play area designed as an old farm shack, climbing areas and a flying fox, all located along a pathway that replicates the Gunbower Creek.

Councillors also noted the Victorian Electoral Commission 2020 Local Government Elections – Gannawarra Shire Council Election Report, which provides information on the 2020 Gannawarra Shire Council general election.

The report provides a snapshot from the elections, held during October 2020, with the following significant details featuring in the document:

The number of certified voters increased by 70 compared to the 2016 election; The overall voter turnout was 83.32 per cent, which was higher than the State average turnout of 81.74 per cent (excluding Melbourne City Council) and the 2016 Council election turnout (81.71 per cent); and The number of informal votes recorded (1.98 per cent) was below the State average for all postal elections conducted (4.76 per cent) and the total received during the 2016 Council election (2.08 per cent).

Other outcomes from the meeting included:

The endorsement of three reviewed policies – Asset Naming, Community Grants and Public Interest Disclosure; and The noting of the 2020/2021 quarterly financial report as at 31 March 2021.
